Welcome to Pioneer Sports

Established in 1922 in Sialkot (now Pakistan) as a trading company, Pioneer Sports started its journey with export of footballs to England. Within the 1 st 2 yrs. business grew unprecedented, and a factory was set up. To make the bladders for the footballs, a rubber factory was opened near Mumbai- called the Pioneer Rubber Mills. The Mumbai store was opened in 1928 and by 1931 we had opened stores in Calcutta( Kolkata), Madras( Chennai), Delhi( New Dehli), Darjeeling, Dacca.,Peshawar and a London Office as well. The Factory in Sialkot had over 150 workers and was one of the largest sporting goods factories of Undivided India. During Partition, everything needed to be abandoned on the Pakistan side and we moved to Jalandhar, where a new factory was established. This factory made, footballs, hockey sticks, cricket equipment, volleyballs and the 1 st and ONLY synthetic string manufacturing unit in India. These stings were required for Tennis, badmintons, squash and fishing as well. Over the years, over 40 retail outlets were opened all over India – at a time where phone calls were “Trunk calls”, telegrams were a way of communication, and travel was mainly by train, with months of pre-booking required. By 1965, a lot of these stores were closed due to mismanagement by staff and the inability to run a Nationwide- Multi store Concept, an idea which was ahead of its time.

Our Mumbai Outlet is one of the largest sports “Multi-brand” outlets in the city, supplying to more than 300 sports stores, clubs, universities, colleges, schools and sporting institutes in India. It is from this store that we have been able to supply a whole range of sporting goods to countries like USA, Canada, Denmark, South Africa, Sri Lanka, The Caribbean- to name a few.

Innovation was something that we prided ourselves for. The cricket rubber balls- which is widely used all over India today, was invented by the Pioneer Rubber Factory. The concept of signing players was conceptualized by us. The legendary hockey player- Dhyan Chand – has his signature embedded on our hockey sticks. Ajit Wadekar- Cricket captain for India, was also signed by us. Pioneer Sports- Mumbai, is today a Multi-Brand retail Store, and is unique in a few ways. Known for selling ONLY branded goods, with brands like Nivia, Asics, SG, Kookaburra, Butterfly, Yonex, Li Ning, ON, MB, Adidas, Nike, Puma, Head, Balbolat, Wilson Tecnifibre, Speedo, Jonex. Camelback, Precise (Carrom) to name a few. Our USP is the advice we give while buying any product at the store. For this product knowledge is very important, and this is where we excel.
